"When I first started, I was a little afraid to start any course online, but I decided on MT Advantage for a few reasons. One was that a current medical transcription service owner founded the school. She knows what MT's today need to know and what they are lacking when graduating from other schools. The experience you get from her dication is a lot -- when you are done you have the experience of a 2 year MT.
The course teaches you macros (shortcuts) when typing dictation.
Compared to the other courses I have looked into, MT Advantage has much more dictation (over 900 hours!) From what I understand the SUM CDs that are used are worth over $2000 (if you bought them on your own.)
When we do transcription, we get our tests back with feedback on what we did right or wrong. I also cannot say enough about the interactive online course. The modules cover everything from learning how to use your computer more efficently (which is great - taught me a lot I didn't know) to how to prepare for employment and all of the medical specialities.
MT Advantage uses professional books by well-known authors in the MT industry, as well as the online component. They give you all the reference materials you will need to help you with your course. The modules online are in full color to help you remember better. They also give you a dictionary and drugbook both on CD, not just a book that other courses give you (this helps a lot when you get into transcribing to have that right in your computer to reference.)
MT Advantage offers typing tutorial software, not just a typing book, and also Beginning through Advanced computer and Microsoft Word skills.
I like the way ALL of the tests are OPEN BOOK, even the final exam!!
(Ed. note: The Final Exam is two-part with the first part being open
book. The second part is extensive transcription testing in a variety
of reports and dialects.) You also will not take the final exam for
transcription unless they feel you are ready and can get a good score.
They will continue to work with you until you feel comfortable and confident!
The student forums are great! They forum has MT Advantage staff and mentors answering student questions, so they are always there when you need them. They also have a neat medical trivia game room (helps make learning fun!) Every week they run a contest and and the winner gets a reference book (nice to get something for free, and don't have to pay for it!)
I really feel this school is the way to go. They are relatively new (although the founder is not) and they want their students to succeed. I also felt the other schools had way too many students to give me the personal attention I wanted. I DO get the attention I want here, and my questions are always answered whether it's on the student forums or emailing my instructor! I thought about (deleted name) school too, but my many reasons above are why I decided on MT Advantage. :)

"In November, I applied for a part-time MT position opening up at a local hospital. I had just received the first SUM CD and I might have just gone through the first section when I received a phone call from the hospital telling me that they wanted to offer me the job.
There were 6 others to apply - 4 had at least 2 years experience and

"I have just personally reviewed the MT Advantage online course. All
I can say is "It's AWESOME! I LOVE IT!" It covers aspects of medical
transcription that other programs don't touch. For example, MT Advantage
offers training on research methods, how to better utilize your PC,
and how to use MS Word more efficiently with macros, templates, and
shortcuts. I like the fact that it covers Laboratory and Pathology 
which
I have not found in any other course that I've seen. Just a quick review
of this module gave me a better understanding of laboratory tests and
pathology procedures. All of these things I've mentioned will assure
that the students will be receiving the best possible training available.
I highly recommend it, and by the way, I LOVE Marci (an animated character
that guides you throughout the program)!
I was personally trained by Margery Hinman, CMT, about 10 years ago through private study using many of the techniques that are now a part of MT Advantage.
